Prayers

Adult & All Age

A gathering prayer

Risen Lord, we gather as members of your family in…
Like your disciples, we are all so very different:
we have different personalities,
different friends and families,
but you gather us here, Lord,
and we ask you to make us one
as we join together in our praise and worship.
Amen.

Call to worship

The disciples rejoiced when they saw their Lord.
We come before our God this morning
with rejoicing in our hearts.
Putting aside all our cares,
we focus on the one who is risen from the dead.
Christ is risen indeed, hallelujah!

A prayer of approach

Jesus says:
‘Where two or three are gathered in my name,
I am there among them.’
The disciples came together in the upper room
when they were afraid.
And you, Lord Jesus, were there.
They came together again when they had cause to rejoice.
And you, Lord Jesus, were there.
Thank you that however we might be feeling this morning,
you are here with us.
Open our hearts and minds to see you, Lord.
Amen.

A prayer for all ages together

Jesus came to the disciples.
Thank you, God, that they saw him.

Jesus came to Thomas.
Thank you, God, that he touched him.

Jesus comes to me.
Thank you, God,
for everything you do for me.
Amen.

A prayer of confession

Lord, if we are honest we have to confess
that, like Thomas, we sometimes
find it hard to believe in you.
And we ask for proof.
We may be ashamed about that
and try to keep it to ourselves.
We even keep our feelings from you.
We pray today for honesty in our relationships,
not only with you, but with each other.
That we will be able to echo the words of Thomas:
‘My Lord and my God.’
Amen.

A way into prayer

Jesus said to him, ‘If you are able! – All things can be done for the one who believes.’ Immediately the father of the child cried out, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’ (Mark 9.23-24)

Think about what might be obstacles to belief in your life. Ask God to make them clear and show you how to overcome them.

Prayers of intercession

We live in a world where many doubt.
We pray today for those who doubt because
no one has ever shown them the love of Jesus.
Lord, have mercy on each one.

We pray for those who doubt because
the circumstances of their lives
just don’t hold any sign of a God of love.
Lord, have mercy on each one.

We pray for those who doubt because
they have been hurt or let down by others,
or have never learned to trust.
Lord, have mercy on each one.

We pray for those who doubt because
war or natural disaster
has destroyed them or those they love.
Lord, have mercy on each one.

We pray for those who doubt because
they are in the dark night of illness or grief.
Lord, have mercy on each one.

Lord, we pray for all who doubt your love
for whatever reason:
shine your resurrection light in their lives.
Lord, have mercy on each one.
Amen.

A prayer of thanksgiving

‘Blessed are those who have not seen
and yet have come to believe.’
Thank you, Lord, that you are so patient with us
when we can be so impatient.
You never force us to believe,
but you rejoice when we do.
Thank you, Lord, that you can break down our barriers
and set us free to love and worship you.
Amen.

A personal prayer

Jesus said to Thomas:
‘Do not doubt but believe.’
Thomas replied: ‘My Lord and my God.’

Jesus says to me:
‘Do not doubt but believe.’
I reply: ‘My Lord and my God.’

Spend some time telling your Lord and God that you trust him with all your cares and concerns.
Then relax into his presence and worship him.

A sending out prayer

‘Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence
of his disciples, which are not written in this book.’
Lord, as we go out today,
may we live lives that are open to you,
always looking for opportunities
to write our own book of your miracles,
and giving you the glory and honour in all we do.
Amen.

Galwad i addoli

Gorfoleddodd y disgyblion pan welsant eu Harglwydd.
Deuwn gerbron ein Duw heddiw
â llawenydd yn ein calonnau.
Gan roi heibio ein gofidiau,
canolbwyntiwn ar yr un sydd wedi ei gyfodi o farw.
Atgyfododd Crist, haleliwia!

Gweddi ymgynnull

Arglwydd atgyfodedig, ymgasglwn fel aelodau o’th deulu yn...
Fel dy ddisgyblion gynt, rydym mor wahanol:
mae gennym wahanol bersonoliaethau,
gwahanol ffrindiau a theuluoedd,
ond yr wyt ti’n ein cynnull yma, Arglwydd,
a gofynnwn i ti ein gwneud yn un
wrth i ni uno yn ein mawl ac addoliad.
Amen.

Gweddi ddynesu
Dywed Iesu:
‘Lle y mae dau neu dri wedi dod ynghyd yn fy enw i,
yr wyf yno yn eu canol.’
Daeth y disgyblion at ei gilydd yn yr oruwch ystafell
pan oedd ofn arnynt.
Ac yr oeddet ti, Arglwydd Iesu, yno gyda nhw.
Daethant at ei gilydd eto pan oedd ganddynt achos i ddathlu.
Ac yr oeddet ti, Arglwydd Iesu, yno gyda nhw.
Diolch dy fod yma gyda ni heddiw
sut bynnag fyddwn yn teimlo.
Agor ein calonnau a’n meddyliau i dy weld di, Arglwydd.
Amen.

Gweddi o gyffes

Arglwydd, os ydym yn onest mae’n rhaid cyffesu
ein bod weithiau, fel Thomas,
yn ei chael yn anodd credu ynot.
A gofynnwn am brawf.
Efallai bod cywilydd arnom am hynny
ac fe geisiwn ei gadw’n dawel.
Byddwn hyd yn oed yn cadw ein teimladau rhagot.
Gweddïwn heddiw am onestrwydd yn ein perthnasau,
nid yn unig â thi, ond â’n gilydd.
Fel y gallwn ategu geiriau Thomas:
‘Fy Arglwydd a’m Duw.’
Amen.

Gweddi o ddiolchgarwch

‘Gwyn eu byd y rhai a gredodd
heb iddynt weld.’
Diolch, Arglwydd, dy fod mor amyneddgar gyda ni
pan fyddwn ninnau’n ddiamynedd.
Ni fyddi di byth yn ein gorfodi i gredu,
ond rwyt yn llawenhau pan fyddwn yn credu.
Diolch, Arglwydd, y galli di dorri ein rhwystrau
a’n gollwng yn rhydd i’th garu a’th addoli di.
Amen.

Gweddïau o eiriolaeth

Rydym yn byw mewn byd ble mae llawer yn amau.
Gweddïwn heddiw dros y rhai sy’n amau
oherwydd nad oes unrhyw un wedi dangos gariad Iesu iddynt.
Arglwydd, bydd yn drugarog wrthynt bob un.

Gweddïwn heddiw dros y rhai sy’n amau
oherwydd nad yw amgylchiadau eu bywyd
yn dangos unrhyw arwydd o Dduw cariad.
Arglwydd, bydd yn drugarog wrthynt bob un.

Gweddïwn heddiw dros y rhai sy’n amau
oherwydd iddynt gael eu brifo neu eu siomi gan eraill.
Arglwydd, bydd yn drugarog wrthynt bob un.

Gweddïwn heddiw dros y rhai sy’n amau
oherwydd i ryfel neu drychineb naturiol
eu dinistrio neu’r rhai a garant.
Arglwydd, bydd yn drugarog wrthynt bob un.

Gweddïwn heddiw dros y rhai sy’n amau
oherwydd eu bod yng nghanol tywyllwch gwaeledd neu alar.
Arglwydd, bydd yn drugarog wrthynt bob un.

Arglwydd, gweddïwn heddiw dros y rhai sy’n amau
dy gariad am ba reswm bynnag.
Arglwydd, bydd yn drugarog wrthynt bob un.
Amen.

Gweddi bersonol

Dywedodd Iesu wrth Thomas:
‘Paid â bod yn anghredadun, bydd yn gredadun.’
Atebodd Thomas ef, ‘Fy Arglwydd a'm Duw!’

Dywed Iesu wrthyf fi:
‘Paid â bod yn anghredadun, bydd yn gredadun.’
Atebaf innau, ‘Fy Arglwydd a'm Duw!’

Treuliwch ychydig amser yn dweud wrth eich Arglwydd a’ch Duw eich bod yn ymddiried ynddo gyda phob un o’ch gofidiau.
Yna ymlaciwch yn ei bresenoldeb a’i addoli.

Gweithgaredd gweddi

Dywedodd Iesu wrtho, ‘Os yw'n bosibl! Y mae popeth yn bosibl i'r sawl sydd â ffydd ganddo.’ Ar unwaith gwaeddodd tad y plentyn, ‘Yr wyf yn credu; helpa fi yn fy niffyg ffydd.’ (Marc 9.23-24)

Ystyriwch beth all fod yn rhwystrau i grediniaeth yn eich bywyd. Gofynnwch i Dduw i’w gwneud yn eglur a dangos i chi sut i’w goresgyn.

Gweddi ar gyfer pob oed gyda’i gilydd

Daeth Iesu at ei ddisgyblion.
Diolch, Dduw, eu bod wedi ei weld ef.

Daeth Iesu at Thomas.
Diolch, Dduw, ei fod wedi ei gyffwrdd ef.

Daw Iesu ataf i.
Diolch, Dduw,
am bopeth rwyt yn ei wneud drosof i.

Amen.

Gweddi i gloi

Yr oedd llawer o arwyddion eraill a wnaeth Iesu yng ngwydd
ei ddisgyblion, nad ydynt wedi eu cofnodi yn y llyfr hwn.’
Arglwydd, wrth i ni fynd allan heddiw,
boed i ni fyw bywydau sy’n agored i ti,
gan chwilio’n barhaus am gyfleoedd
i ysgrifennu ein llyfrau ein hunain o’th wyrthiau,
gan roi i ti’r gogoniant a’r anrhydedd ym mhopeth a wnawn.
Amen.

Children & Young People

A gathering prayer for children

Jesus appeared in the upper room,
peace be with you.
He showed the disciples his hands and his side,
peace be with you.
They were happy that they had seen the Lord,
peace be with you.
Thomas was not there,
peace be with you.
Thomas did not believe,
peace be with you.
Jesus came again for Thomas,
peace be with you.
Thomas believed,
peace be with you.
Amen.

A prayer of approach for children

God, let us not be like Thomas
and miss out.
He did not believe in the resurrection of Jesus because he was not there.
He did believe when he saw Jesus.
Help us to believe without seeing.
Jesus died and rose again for us.
Amen.

A prayer of petition for children

If only it were so easy, Lord,
to put my hand in yours.
If only it were so easy, Lord,
to take your words on board.
But sometimes, Lord, I have my doubts,
and I wonder what it means.
Come back to me, Lord,
and hold out your hands
and I will follow you.
Amen.

A prayer of adoration for children

The disciples were feeling lost,
you showed them the way.
The disciples didn’t know what to believe,
you gave them the truth.
You died, and yet you rose again.
Lord, you are our life.
Amen.

A sending out prayer for children

Jesus said, ’Blessed are those who have not seen and yet come to believe.’
Thank you, Jesus, that we believe you rose to new life for us.
Amen.

Pam wnes i ei golli?

Dduw, paid â gadael i mi fod fel Thomas
a cholli allan.
Doedd o ddim yn credu yn atgyfodiad Iesu
am na fuodd yno.
Credodd pan welodd Iesu.
Helpa ni i gredu heb weld.
Bu Iesu farw ac atgyfodi er ein mwyn ni.
Amen.

Gwelsom yr Arglwydd

Petai hi mor hawdd, Arglwydd,
i roi fy llaw yn d’un di.
Petai hi mor hawdd, Arglwydd,
i gymryd dy eiriau i mewn.
Ond weithiau, Arglwydd, mae gen i f’amheuon
a meddyliaf tybed beth yw ystyr hyn.
Tyrd yn ôl ataf
ac estyn allan dy ddwylo
ac fe’th dilynaf di.
Amen.

Roeddent ar goll

Roedd y disgyblion yn teimlo ar goll,
dangosaist iddynt y ffordd.
Ni wyddai’r disgyblion beth i’w gredu,
rhoddaist iddynt y gwir.
Buost farw, ac eto atgyfodaist.
Arglwydd, ti yw ein bywyd.
Amen.

Gweddi ymgynnull

Ymddangosodd Iesu yn yr oruwch ystafell,
tangnefedd i chi.
Dangosodd ei ddwylo a’i ystlys i’w ddisgyblion,
tangnefedd i chi.
Nid oedd Thomas yno,
tangnefedd i chi.
Ni allai Thomas gredu,
tangnefedd i chi.
Daeth Iesu eto er mwyn Thomas,
tangnefedd i chi.
Credodd Thomas,
tangnefedd i chi.
Amen.

Gweddi i gloi

Dywedodd Iesu, ‘Gwyn eu byd y rhai a gredodd heb iddynt weld.’
Diolch, Iesu, ein bod yn credu i ti godi i fywyd newydd drosom ni.
Amen.
