The Olympic Challenge

A fun, sports-themed event for the whole community

The Paris Olympics will take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Why not celebrate the event by inviting your local community to join you for a family sports day-style event in your churchyard or local green space? This is a fun way to get to know local families and build goodwill in your community as well as sharing in the Olympics excitement. You could follow up by extending invitations to your church services, toddler groups or seasonal events.

The event works a little like crazy golf, with small groups of participants working their way around a course and competing against each other within their groups to win each event. To make it fairer, adults are given harder challenges than children.

Most of the challenges can be set up and self-directed by the participants, so although you will need some time and resources to set it up, you should not need many helpers to run the event. And don’t worry, the challenges are just for fun and don’t require much actual sporting ability!

Our Olympic challenge material includes guidance on how to set up the event, plus:

  • ready-made poster and postcard templates to help you advertise your event
  • ready-made instruction posters for the 10 activities - all you need to do is print and display
  • score sheet
  • activity sheet for children and families - including some short passages from the Bible to think about as they go round.
